It’s surprising how little tourists see in Victoria Falls when they visit.  Things that are so close by, if they had only known about them.  Missing out on much of its history and what Victoria Falls has to offer.

Perhaps it might be a good time to clear up one or two things about travel to this destination.  What are some common misunderstandings about this Natural Wonder?

One big one is:  Where is the Victoria Falls.

Just so you know now… it’s not in South Africa!

It is shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Two different countries and the Falls can be viewed partially from each side.

Knowing when the best time is to visit and if it’s worth seeing it from both countries are things that will help you make good decisions regarding accommodation and visas.

And learning about the weather never hurt…

Victoria Falls is the name of the Town, the Waterfall and the National Park on the Zimbabwe side. A little confusing right? And the Waterfall is called by two names, The Victoria Falls and Mosi-Oa-Tunya. You are going to learn so much more.  Remember to take those notes…

  1. When visiting new places or countries, I always like to plan everything ahead of time, so I’m with you on this. I would like to know as much as I can about the place, make a list of the things I want to do and the beautiful tourist spots the place has to offer. I like surprises but when it comes to vacationing or visiting new places, I think it’s important to read as much as you can about the place before heading there to have an amazing experience.

Victoria Falls being one of the 7 wonders of the world is definitely on my bucket list. I have read quite a bit about this place and I’ve seen some photos too. Thanks for sharing this information on what books to read about Victoria Falls, I’ll be checking them out.

    • Hi Alysanna

Oh, I am so glad you agree! Planning ahead can relieve you of the stresses that come with simply not knowing enough.

A common misunderstanding that tourists make when vacationing here in Vic Falls is that they don’t realise that Zimbabwe and Zambia are two different places! Often folk book the accommodation on the Zambia side and the activities on the Zimbabwe side – this can get expensive with visas and transfer costs. Plans are changed to save money and as a result, they only see Victoria Falls from the Zambian side – which in low season can be a little disappointing.

Happy reading! And check back for more information as you plan your trip.

  2. I’d say this information is a must if one plans on going to take a trip to one of these locations. I definitely believe it’s beneficial to get some background study on a place where you plan on vacationing(food, lay of the land, scenery, people, landmarks, history etc…) so as to get the most of the experience when being there.

    • Hi Brad

      Glad you agree!

It would be such a shame to miss out on seeing things – that could be so close-by (had you only known). The average stay in Victoria Falls is about two days – That is so short a time to pack in all the activities (you need at least three to four). The time will fly by! Being informed is key to getting the most out of your trip and helps you to avoid wasting precious moments!

      Thanks for commenting.
